Before starting coaching, Maxim Yurievich was a professional football player. Having started his career in Khimki as a defender in 1998, he then played both in Russian clubs, including Lipetsk Metallurg, Kaliningrad Baltika and Moscow Torpedo, and abroad – he played in Polish Shlensk and Belarusian Torpedo (Zhodino). He finished his playing career in 2015.
In the same year, he started his career in women's football in the Rossiyanka Housing and Communal Services system, and already in 2016 he led the team to victory in the Russian championship.
However, the biggest and most successful part of the 45-year-old specialist's coaching career is connected with CSKA Moscow, where he has been working intermittently since 2016. Under his leadership, the army team twice became the champion of Russia in 2019 and 2020 and four times became the winner of the WINLINE Cup of the country (2017, 2022, 2023, 2025), In 2024, the red and blue won the WINLINE Russian Super Cup.
In his career, he also worked as an assistant in the coaching staff of the Russian national team from 2021 to 2023.
Zinoviev won his last trophy with the army team in October last year, when in the final of the Cup of Russia at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, his wards defeated Zenit in a penalty shootout with a score of 4:3 after a goalless draw in regular time. In the final round of the Super League of the same season, CSKA again defeated the St. Petersburg team and finished the championship with silver medals. After the end of the 2025 season, in which CSKA took second place for the fifth time in a row, Zinoviev left the club.

He started his professional career in 1998 at FC Khimki. He played for the clubs "Shlensk" (Poland), "Metallurg" (Lipetsk), "Gazovik-Gazprom" (Izhevsk), "Dynamo" (Makhachkala), "Baltika" (Kaliningrad), "Volga" (Ulyanovsk), "Torch" (Voronezh), "Torpedo" (Moscow). He finished his career as a player in 2015.

He started his coaching career in women's football in 2015. Headed clubs: ZHFC "Rossiyanka" (2016), ZHFC CSKA (2016, 2017-2018, 2019-2021, 2022-2025). He worked as a consulting coach at CSKA Moscow (2021-2022) and assistant coach at the Russian national team (2021-2023).
